BRIC’S MILANO

Background

Already well known in Europe and Asia, BRIC’S wanted to build a stronger brand presence in the North American market. I developed a custom CSS framework and several reusable and extensible page templates on the request of the project lead, creating a customized online presence. With the brands goals and vision in mind, the new site launched. BRIC’S more than double online sales in North America that first year.

Custom Product Layout focusing user on the high value item

This most technical challenge of the site was completely restructured Single and Variation product template. The content on the left and right is hooked in and filtered together in the core template however the design required that we split several items left, right, up, down, you name it we did it. Most of the restructuring was handled through the custom product template however a few items also had to be remove and added back with jQuery in order to match the design pixel for pixel.

Other challenges and functionality

The most tedious challenge was making all of the desktop designs mobile friendly as the site was not designed "Mobile First" There was also the issue of Flex Box not being fully supported and still vary much in it's infancy. The resulting product archives, cards, posts and other stackable content was all handled with break points, floats and plenty of transforms for vertically and horizontally centering content, text and sections.

because of the Left navigation all of the content needed margin offsets which made it difficult to reuse the same styles on smaller screen sizes. Overall this project challenged me and forced me to utilize every CSS trick in the book (at the time). The result was tedious but well executed.

Conclusion

BRIC's is still continuing to spread the brand’s online presence in the South American market.

Hard Tail Forever

Background:

Hard Tail Forever is a global supplier of quality performance yoga apparel and casual-wear. yoga apparel in over 100 color variations. that in essence was the most difficult feature of this company to overcome. the sheer amount of variations was incredible. one product could have upwards of 300 variations with different sizes and colors.I had to develop custom memory requirement to save variations as the load on the server was too great for a default installation of WooCommerce.

Custom Plugin Development:

The most interesting problem was creating this ensemble feature that gave admin users the ability to pair multiple products together and associate and image or (images) if they had them to show. I ended up writing a script that would take the selected variations and pass them to the WooCommerce framework function that accepted product id's or and array of id's

KÜHL Clothing Life Style Blog

Background

Kuhl was looking to bring more life into their products. the project was aimed at placing featured items in these lifestyle stories specifically a kuhl apparel item or two. Then cross sell the product as the user was reading the story, with the hope of the reader purchasing or exploring Kuhls Website.

Intense Animation Requirements

The project went through several design hand offs each adding more animation and scroll effects to the project. I relied heavily on custom animations I created with "ScrollMagic.js" and "GSAP" jQuery animation libraries.

I had to remove several requested animation due to poor browser performance as I learned the limitations and pitfalls of intensive parallax usage. Overall the stripped back effects still made the clients extremely happy as thier main ecommerce site had little to no user triggered animations or interaction.

A Major Push for the Catalog:

I was informed that Kuhl would like to have The Outsiders blog look almost identical to the Catalog aesthetics that was being released simultaneously. Overall I feel like I was able to get the same essence that you can see from the pictured catalog throughout the site.

Scroll Effects

While abit overkill at times there was a demand for sticky scrolling for all of the story content that had long enough text sections. Overal I feel like I was able to provide as smooth a scroll experience as one could hope for given the project timeline.

Conclusion

I was able to deliver a custom CMS that enabled Kuhl to continue to add stories, adventure destinations, and more. They continue to use the blog and it is now full of almost triple the content from when I was still apart of the project. you can view the project by going to theoutsiders.com

MOLESKINE by BRIC’s Micro Site

Custom SVG Logo Animation

the most funt peice was the logo animation given that Moleskine was so influential in the artist / writer community I developed a "Hand Drawn" feeling for the initial page load for the Moleskin by Bric's logo.

Background

Moleskine and BRIC’S wanted to build a colaboration piece but wanted complete branding seperation from BRICSTORE.COM. I developed a new micro site, and with the direction of the design team implemented a new color scheme.

Alcatraz Escape Games

Background

Alcatraz Escape Games needed to be migrated off an old framework onto an extensible framework that easily allowed the abillity to introduce custom Franchising options they need as they were expanding from one location to three and many more in the future.

Franchising Options and Unique features per location

I helped design an extensible back-end that allowed new employees to easily add new and unique content per location. They also required the use of a booking service that I was able to extend and integrate on a per location basis.

Doggie Nation / Wooden Duck Shoppe

Background

I was tasked with transferring both sites from older dated eCommerce Platforms to a completely new platform that was able to perform the same functions as the previous platform and be extensible far into the future. Both Sites were migrated from separate platforms (X-Cart and OpenCart) and transferred to a WooCommerce. They both required very similar management and drop shipping features as well as individual custom search and listing functionalities. Overall I was able to facilitate the transfer with a small team of two developers and transition the clients support personnel to manage the new platform. Both Doggienation.com and Woodenduckshoppe.com are still thriving after 3 years since this switch.
